Holiday reading is here! And I am all for it! I wrote a blog post on 5 holiday reads to add to your list for a Bookish Fave on Monday--you can find it here. One of the books on the that list is Maggie Knox’s The Holiday Swap (Amazon | Bookshop.org).
I don’t know about you, but I love a nice, cozy holiday book that I can snuggle up and read with a nice cup of coffee or hot cocoa. The Holiday Swap did not disappoint. This charming tale is about Charlie and Cass, two identical twin sisters whose lives are in need of a little holiday magic. Charlie is a well-known television host of a competition baking show. She is vying for a solo hosting gig with her biggest competition being her current co-host and nemesis. Cass works in her family’s bakery in a small town. She is trying to exit a longtime relationship with her boyfriend who is just not getting the hint. So, when Charlie loses her sense of taste and smell because of a freak accident at work, it seems like the perfect time for Cass and Charlie to switch lives just until Cass can secure Charlie the hosting gig.
The Holiday Swap isn’t breaking any new ground, but it is charming and fun. Charlie and Cass encounter all the hijinks (and love!) in their new lives. As an avid fan of baking competition shows (my daughter and I just started the new season of Holiday Baking Championship!), and a true lover of all books that revolve around food, The Holiday Swap struck just the right chord for me. And in true 80s child fashion, I loved the Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High books, and in that series, identical twins Elizabeth and Jessica were known for employing the twin switch on multiple occasions. So, this is a trope I am both familiar with and absolutely love!
So, if you are looking for a nice, light read with tons of holiday spirit, I think you will love Maggie Knox’s The Holiday Swap. Happy holiday reading!
