Things have been tough lately, so I was in the mood for a festive holiday read. In October. Yep. October. So, I requested Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze, which releases October 6th. Thanks to NetGalley #partner for my free e-galley of this book. You all know what a slow reader I am, and I flew through this book. Talk about the right book at the right time.
This Groundhog Day-esque (Yes, I made up that word.) tale about Maelyn (Mae) Jones, begins with the conclusion of Maelyn’s annual Christmas vacation with a houseful of her parents lifelong friends and their children. Maelyn is at a crossroads in her life. She is living with her parents, working at a job she doesn’t enjoy, and has been unlucky, for the most part, in love.
As Mae’s family is leaving their Christmas retreat, Mae is contemplating her life and asks the universe to show her how to be happy. A few moments later, the family’s car is hit by another vehicle and Mae is knocked out. When she comes to, she is in an airplane seat on the way TO the annual Christmas get together...hijinks ensue and cue Groundhog Day vibes.
I really enjoyed this fun, light romance. I loved the setting of the book--an old cabin filled with friends and love--I almost felt like I was there. I wanted to be part of this eclectic group of friends, connected by a genuine love for one another. It also had everything I look for in a holiday/romance read. Descriptions of festive decorations? Check. Fun holiday games in the snow? Check. A love triangle and a bit of steaminess. Check and check.
If you are like me and just needing some levity in your reading life, definitely check this out. It is a fun holiday romp that is sure to satisfy Christina Lauren fans and fans of holiday novel reading. I thoroughly enjoyed In a Holidaze.
